Oldonyowas 03 - 04 – 2020

INTRODUCTION.

Oldonyowas Secondary school is situation Oldonyowas village at Oldonyowas ward in Arusha District. The construction of this school began officially in January 2017. It started with building of two classrooms, and then followed by two more classrooms and two staff quarters. The school administration block, latrines for students and staff and the multipurpose hall was build secondly which enabled the school to be opened officially with 157 students, 60 boys, 97 girls and 11 teachers in August 2019.

Today the school has two grades. Form one and two with a total number of 223 students and teachers.

THE IMMEDIATE KEY FOCUS.

Science laboratory.

The science laboratory will not include water and gas systems.

The key focus of citizens of Oldonyowas is to have the best students in sciences for the further making of modern Oldonyowas and the best sustainable future.

The cost will be approx. 46.000.000 Tzsh = 136.000 kr.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS LABORATORY.

The construction of Oldonyowas Secondary School is based on community contribution funds and human resource together with several donors.

The construction of the modern Chemistry laboratory began in August 2019 after the donation of 64 Million Tanzania Shillings, made possible by Jesper Land Gregersen and Rotary Bjerringbro, Denmark and a good number of private people and companies. The construction work of the laboratory was well done, and installation of all the necessary equipment’s has been made, despite the challenges we faced on installation water and gas supply systems. This was mainly due to limited skills of the professional personnel so the project was prolonged. A new craftsman had to be hired to finish the gas system. This gave increasing costs for finishing the project. The village have payed these costs.

The Village Council and the Village General Assembly are extending their sincere thanks to all friends in Denmark for the contribution they gave, a genuine contribution and unforgettable efforts to improve the living standard and life of people in our village. It has improved in several areas such as health, water supply, education and many other areas of life.

 OUR PRIORITIES AFTER FINISHING LABORATORIES.

CURRENT SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Two classes for form three next year
  2. Dining hall and kitchen
  3. Housing for staff
  4. Two dormitories for boys
  5. Four classes for A-Level (Form five and six)
  6. Games and sports grounds

Science laboratories, of which chemistry/physics is ready, we are lacking one biology laboratory which is needed immediately.

  1. Two classes for form III. We are looking forward to have two classes for form three next year. The construction should start this year 2020.
  2. Dining Hall and the kitchen. Currently we are lacking the kitchen which made us use the Primary School kitchen, which is therefore overcrowded. We are aiming to construct a dining hall with a kitchen the coming year 2021.
  3. Currently we have two houses with the capacity of accommodating 6 teachers. Therefore we have a shortage of three houses. 3 houses with the capacity of accommodating 3 teachers with family or five teachers without family; hopefully this can be done next year.
  4. Currently the school has two dormitories for girls with the capacity of hundred (100) students. Our plan is to construct two dormitories for boys with the capacity of one hundred students (100). We focus on being able to accommodate all students walking longer distances to and from school to home. It’s also to ensure the safety of students especially girls child. This project is in prior-planning and surveying to begin in the coming year.
  5. It is our future plan to construct A- level classes and establish A-Level (form five and six in our school). This project is still in prior-investigation and survey.

 CONCLUSION

With these motives, people of Oldonyowas, in collaboration with different donors and friends from Denmark, are constructed a modern secondary school in the village. Hand in hand with all our needs, we will continue moving with our priorities pending on time and resources available. Our key considerations in all our projects is community involvement through Village General Assembly, Village Council, School management team, and District level leaders, Jesper Land Gregersen and all other friends.

We extend heartfelt recognition of these efforts from Danish Consulate through Geert Lassen Holm, Jesper Land Gregersen and Rotary in Denmark and Tanzania for their effort, not only in construction of the school and water systems, but also conserving our environment through tree planting projects and the like.

We are furthermore extending our cordial thanks to all in our community, and our government, for their sincere contribution to the development of our community. We also send our heartfelt thanks to supervisors of the project; architects, school administration, the village, ward and district and our nation at large.

Finally to all our friends and donors from Tanzania and in all other places, all the entire societies which dared and gave contributions that made us reach these substantial achievements. Through this exceptional project the life of our community will be improved through sustainable education.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INNOLVEMENT AND PARTICIPATION.
